Here at Spoke.ie we are big fans of mountain bike videos as you can tell. We constantly trawl the Internet for good quality content to bring you and every now and again we come across some real gems. This video is good for another reason – namely it should provoke some thought. Scotland is a fantastic riding destination and while it is a bit easier to escape modern life with the larger wilderness areas that there are in Scotland, for most of the time ‘Scotland’ is mentioned you could substitute ‘Ireland’. Have a listen in particular to what Singletrack magazine editor Chipps Chippendale has to say and also Danny MacAskills opening comment.
Hopefully this should spark some interesting debate. There is no reason why a similar film couldn’t be made for Ireland, after all the Discover Ireland “All these highs and lows” campaign almost directly mirrored a Scottish campaign. What we need is a Through the Roots or similar style documentary on the subject but then they couldn’t promote trails outside of trail centres could they?
Look at the large feature in Singletrack magazine this month on Niall Davis’s Gravity Enduro series. World class event, amazing scenery, on the door step of a capital city world renowned for its evening entertainment oh and the thing that was routinely mentioned throughout the article – the people! We need to be promoting this country more as an adventure tourism destination, yes we can mention the apres-piste activities that everyone knows us for but lets support large events, access and trail development constructively to the benefit of all. From the readership of this site alone, there is a viable market out there.
