This Sunday the 21st of February the first round of a developmental series will take place at Ballinastoe woods in Wicklow.

The aim of the series is to introduce novice XC racers to competitive racing.

Niall Davis and Tarja Owens of Biking.ie are also sponsoring the series with vouchers for training sessions for the three lucky winners.  Furthermore they are doing a pre-ride masterclass with 10 riders prior to the three rounds.  To be in with a shot email niall@biking.ie.  Places are filled for this race but will be available for the remaining two rounds.  Check with biking.ie for more closer to the dates as a competition question will be involved.

This 3 race series is aimed at the beginner/novice and underage categories (no Senior categories) and there won’t be any savage climbs, everything will be rideable.

Categories include under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16.  Sports will be split into Sports A and Sports B with a Ladies class also.  Riders who have raced before above Sports will not be allowed to participate.  The Sports B class is for complete novices who have never raced before with Sports A for experienced Sports riders.  They will be the same length as a normal sports race, but with more fun stuff and less hardship.

While you have the option of registering on the day, you are requested to register online for this event in order to speed-up the sign-on process and also because our generous sponsors Wheelworx will be providing prizes via a raffle for online registrations!

So register online and be in with the chance to win yourself some cool biking goodies.  Online registration will be closing at 3pm on Friday 12th Feb so make sure to register in time!

Entry fee will be minimal (all underage will be free entry) but one day licences will be compulsory.
It is planned that Under age races will start at 10am with Sports/Ladies at 11am.
The Offroad Commission will be providing the trophies and additional support along with senior racers from various clubs - big thanks to those who have volunteered to help with this series!

The series will move to Ballyhoura for round two on March 7th and Derroura in Galway on March 21st.  This is a great opportunity to try out XC racing for the novice, don’t miss out!
