On test - Bontrager RL MTB shoes

October 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The post man has been busy bringing in our Autumn/Winter review kit and one of the more interesting packages contained these mountain bike shoes from Trek subsidiary Bontrager.

Initial thoughts are that they are super lightweight and would seem to be made to take the abuse dished out by Irish trails.  It sits in the middle of Bontragers MTB shoe range and while it is a race shoe with carbon sole and removable studs, it has a bit more comfort for long rides.  Tough outers protect a comfortable liner including a unique insert with a foot bed which reminded us of the support slats for a bed.

On the foot it is super comfortable and we haven’t even told you the best bit yet.

Yes in true recession style these put some of the other top brands to shame with an RRP of only €130 euros.  We have recently reviewed shoes worth three times this and we have to say why?

Full review to follow once we have had some proper trail time.  See your local Trek dealer for more.

    Hey there,

I’ve been wearing the RL Mountain for a few weeks and a few hundret k’s now. And it is nothing like I wore before!! I just use my feet as if they aren’t there, I Don’t have any pressure parts nor do I get tyred feet, even after a few hours. It’s the best shoe so far … however I doubt it will beat the persistence of my old adidas mts which are just 12 years old. BTW it’s only ’bout 100 € on the continent.

    Cheers
