New Ritchey saddles - the Biomax and the Streem carbon

October 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Ritchey are one of our favourite component manufacturers and can now boast the Road and MTB World Championships through their riders Cadel Evans and Nino Schurter.  They have just released details on two new saddles.  First up is the WCS Biomax which we have been testing for a while now.

There is huge debate as to the best type of saddle to use for err… protecting yourself on the trail.  Ritchey’s answer is the Biomax which features a central cutaway section to relieve pressure. It is indeed very comfy and features a carbon injected shell for stiffness. There are lighter saddles on the market (this one weighs 200grams) but this is one area you don’ want to shave weight over comfort.  We have been riding it all summer on one of our MTB race bikes and it has just gone onto a test cross bike for some Winter bashing.  Comfort wise it is very good.  It still requires a good padded  short but there is no numbness on long rides.  It is available in black or white.  We tested the white version and it cleaned up easily after muddy rides.  RRP €104.50

WCS Streem carbon saddle

The Streem carbon is a light weight version of the very popular Streem saddle with carbon rails and a robust Lorica cover.  It features a patented wing-design which dissipates vibration allowing for a more comfortable ride.  35% of the shell is made of injected carbon fiber for stiffness and lightweight.  The is a very svelte 145 grams and has been used all season by new World Champion Nino Schurter and the rest of the Swisspower team.   These saddles are also available in black and in white.   RRP €144,90
