Just arrived are these range topping Mega EXO carbon 2×9 cranks from American company FSA. Market insiders tell us that the trend is towards a double chain ring crankset for Cross Country racing with sets on the way from SRAM and Shimano we are reliably informed for 2010. Unusually these giants of the sport have been beaten to it by FSA who have produced this fantastic crankset, an off-road version of the one rode to the yellow jersey by Spaniard Carlos Sastre. These are fantastically light at under 700 grams including bottom bracket.
FSA have achieved this with a totally hollow crank arm. We brought you details of FSA’s collaboration with AMD earlier in the year and this is an example of how successful it is. The finish and graphics are stunning too and are part of FSA’s theme for the K-Force groupset which is set for expansion in late ‘09.
Ask yourself how often you use your granny ring? We did and it was about twice in the whole year and even at that they were extreme situations. Our test model comes with a 44T and 29T double chain ring set up which should be more than adequate for most situations. We will be testing this over the next few months and we will let you know how we get on shortly. So far we are really impressed.
