Over the weekend of the 11th October over 400 racers will take part in the Relentless 24 hour race in Fort William, Scotland.
Run by top events firm No Fuss, the event follows traditional 24 hour race formats with riders competing in teams of 1, 2 or 4 the idea being to complete as many laps as possible within the time frame. A Le Mans style running start spreads out the field but with 24 hours to go, there is no mad rush. What is unusual about this event is that its held in October in Scotland thus guaranteeing a long night on battery power for competitors.
The course is at the world class Nevis Range facility and utilises much of the UCI World Cup & Championship ‘Witches Trail’ course. This trail is predominantly weatherproof so riders should be saved the usual slog in mud that accompanies 24 hour racing in the UK. However the course will include some new single-track sections and has a longer loop than the Witches trail so a balance will be struck between weather proof trails and gnarly single-track.
Camping is the order of the day as the site is a couple of miles drive from Fort William but the organisers have utilised the considerable car park area at the event site to provide weather proof camp grounds. These kind of events are a great social event as well as a race and each teams pit becomes a home from home. Also worthy of note is the cheap entrance fee at only GB£34 per rider. Normally these events are in the region of £100 per rider.
To top it all off, Spoke.ie will be on site and racing in a 4 man team! We’ll let you know how we get on but why not join us for what is sure to be an excellent weekend? Nevis Range is about a three hour drive from Stranraer, which in turn is a short ferry trip from Belfast. Racing starts at 12 midday on Saturday the 11th, see you on the start line… For more information on the race see the No Fuss website here.
We will also be using the event as a test site for a number of endurance/marathon type products including tyres and lights. Stay tuned for more information.
