Danish MTB champ & Olympian positive for EPO

July 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Peter Riis Anderson, Denmark’s cross country MTB champion and Olympic rider has tested positive for EPO. The Danish cycling federation have expelled him, no news yet on who will replace him. Anderson rides for the German ALB-GOLD squad and was crowned Danish national champion on July 20th.

The rider has admitted taking EPO during a press conference but has inadvertadly hinted at a possible new form of the drug stating that he had taken ’six EPO pills’. This is unusual in that EPO is injected, not taken orally.

Following fellow Dane Rasmussen’s disgrace at last year’s Tour the national federation stepped up their testing but in 163 tests on Olympic athletes so far, Anderson’s is the only positive.
